We are thrilled to announce that Cherien Dabis will Chair the Jury of the 2024 Arab Film Festival.
Cherien Dabis hardly needs an introduction: she is a critically acclaimed and award winning Palestinian American film and television director, writer, and actor.
She made her feature film debut with Amreeka, which she wrote and directed in 2009; that same year she was named one of Variety magazine’s 10 Directors to Watch.

Amreeka premiered at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival and won the FIPRESCI International Critics Prize in the Director’s Fortnight at Cannes, along other international awards. It was also named one of the Top Ten Independent Films of the Year by the National Board of Review.
Cherien Dabis made history when Amreeka broke records in its theatrical release by becoming the most-screened Arab-directed film in US-cinema history.
We have been big fans of her work and commitment to representation for years. Her second feature, May in the Summer, screened at AFF2014. The film was shot in Jordan, and she not only wrote, directed, and produced it, she also acted in it.
May in the Summer opened the 2013 Sundance Film Festival and had its international premiere at the Venice Film Festival before being released worldwide.

Cherien Dabis was a writer on The L Word, and has directed episodes of Ramy, Ozark, The Sinner, and Only Murders in the Building. In 2022 she was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Directing in a Comedy Series for episode The Boy From 6B (Only Murders in the Building).
The 2024 Arab Film Festival opens in San Francisco on October 24th and will run through November 3rd in the San Francisco Bay Area and online. Browse the full schedule and plan your visit.
