The 28th Arab Film Festival opens on Thursday October 24th at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco and will run through Sunday November 3rd.
Today we are excited to share with you AFF2024’s poster – designed by Sharif Ezzat (click on the image to see it full screen).
Every year Sharif Ezzat designs a new poster for the Arab Film Festival.
Here’s what he shared about his latest creation:
“The inspiration for this year’s festival artwork began with the new location for Opening Night, San Francisco’s Palace of Fine Arts.
I reflected on the building’s origin during the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exhibition as the city’s portal to a larger, rapidly changing world. The architectural form of the Palace resembles styles found in the Arab world, so it occurred to me to transform it into a portal to alleyways and street scenes which are a common feature of Arab cities.
The concept plays on the idea of film as a form of mental transport, and the shifts in perspective and color scheme reinforce the variety of perspectives and experiences made accessible by the festival.”
