Description
The Arab Film and Media Institute (AFMI) is the first organization of its kind outside the Arab world, a unique ecosystem to find, nurture, connect, and develop Arab film and media projects. It was rebranded from the Arab Film Festival in 2017 to fulfill its broader mandate to empower local Arab talent to tell their communities’ stories in their own voices through workshops, development and opportunities to screen their work. Through film, education, mentorship, and new media, AFMI’s mission is to change pervasive worldwide anti-Arab narratives.

The Programming Intern will assist in the organization of the Annual Arab Film Festival. The prospective candidate will assist the festival team in various facets of planning and organizing this annual event.

Responsibilities

15-20 hours/week (during the summer), 10 hours (during the fall/winter/spring), college credit available

Description

The Marketing Intern will assist the team in implementing AFMI’s communications and marketing plan — focusing specifically on digital communications — to build awareness about the organization within the community, and to increase film screening attendance.

15-20 hours/week (during the summer), 10 hours (during the fall/winter/spring), flexible hours, college credit available

Requirements

Description

The Executive Intern assists AFMI’s Executive Director with weekly tasks. Duties include performing administrative tasks, providing support for Board of Directors meetings, management of cultivation and invitation lists, some PR work and general planning for events. Opportunity provided to gain event planning experience and learn the logistics of producing an annual film festival.

Excellent organization and communication skills are a must. This internship offers a monthly stipend after three months.

Through film, education, mentorship, and new media, AFMI’s mission is to change pervasive worldwide anti-Arab narratives.

This internship is to support AFMI’s Education program, which serves as an umbrella for a number of activities aimed at reaching out to communities throughout the United States through film and film education. The program includes year-round screenings of Arab films at middle- and high-schools, focused exhibitions at universities, and the newly launched summer workshop for Arab teens,​ Takalam: Arab Youth Speaking Up​.

The Development Intern will support the Development Committee with researching grants, business sponsorships, outreach/partnership opportunities and general support of the Festival’s Development/Fundraising plan.

Start/End dates flexible.

The Arab Film and Media Institute (AFMI) announces its 2023-2024 leadership training program in partnership with the National Network for Arab American Communities (NNAAC). The program is designed for Arab-American undergraduate juniors or seniors, or graduate level college students, or recent graduates. Fellows will be expected to work 16 hours per week at AFMI, and will be given opportunities to learn about all aspects of a non-profit organization, including programming, administration, grant writing, fundraising, communications, and community engagement, among other things.

The Fellowship program will run from September, 2023– June, 2024, and each fellow will receive a $6,000 stipend throughout their service, in three installments. Read all the details and apply here.

NNAAC Transformative Leaders Fellowship

Fellows will be required to attend a virtual orientation during September/October 2023, date TBD, as well as Arab American Leadership Days in D.C. in April/May 2024. In addition, Fellows will be required to participate in regular monthly trainings offered electronically by NNAAC. Fellows will also be required to work with their host organization (AFMI) on developing a professional development plan during their fellowship, obtaining additional training opportunities, and receiving important professional support for them to achieve their goals.

Primary Outcomes:
1. To develop an interest in, knowledge of and commitment to working in the non-profit sector while gaining access to the tools and skills pertinent in becoming successful leaders

2. To develop competencies surrounding the social and cultural issues facing Arab American communities

3. To provide service and administrative support to the host organization (AFMI)
