Palestinian Voices: GAZA FIGHTS FOR FREEDOM
Arab Cinema ReImagined is the Arab Film and Media Institute’s Virtual Cinema Platform
Until the end of the year, AFMI is curating a series of short and feature films to amplify Palestinian Voices as a resource of information and context on the situation currently unfolding in Palestine.
This debut feature film by acclaimed journalist Abby Martin began while reporting in Palestine for her show The Empire Files where she was denied entry into Gaza by the Israeli government on the accusation of being a “propagandist” and an “agent of Iran.” In order to continue with the project Martin connected with a team of journalists in Gaza to produce the film through the blockaded border. The result is a collaboration that depicts Gaza’s protest movement like you’ve never seen before.
Filmed during the height of the Great March Of Return protests – a six-week campaign composed of a series of protests near the Gaza-Israel border – Gaza Fights For Freedom features exclusive footage of demonstrations where 200 unarmed civilians were killed by Israeli snipers since the outset of the movement on March 30, 2018.
