Come and celebrate the opening of the 23rd annual Arab Film Festival with Palestine’s official submission to the 2020 Academy Awards and winner of the Cannes 2019 “Special Mention” award IT MUST BE HEAVEN on October 11, 2019.

#AFF2019 runs October 11-20 throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and once again opens at the historic Castro Theatre.

Synopsis: ES escapes from Palestine seeking an alternative homeland, only to find that Palestine is trailing behind him. The promise of a new life turns into a comedy of errors: however far he travels, from Paris to New York, something always reminds him of home.

From award-winning director Elia Suleiman, a comic saga exploring identity, nationality and belonging, in which ES asks the fundamental question: where is the place we can truly call home?
